چکیده
Objective To describe features of central nervous system (CNS) demyelinating events following vaccination against coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19). Background Several reports suggest a potential association between COVID-19 vaccines and acute CNS inflammation. Design/Methods A case series was performed at the BARLO MS Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Clinicians reported patients who experienced an event within 60 days after receiving least one from March 2021 to January 2022. Clinical characteristics were evaluated. Results Twenty identified (median age 39 years (range 25-82); 13 (65.0%) female). Two had pre-existing multiple sclerosis (MS). Individuals received Pfizer (n = 14), Moderna 5) or Astrazeneca 1) vaccines. Within 1-53 12) first 8) second vaccine dose, developed transverse myelitis (TM) 15), optic neuritis 4) brain demyelination 4). Diagnoses last follow up 114 39-255)) relapsing remitting 8), post-vaccine TM 5), clinically isolated syndrome 3), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody 2), relapse neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder 1). Thirteen pulse corticosteroids, these, 4 plasma exchange. Seven did not receive treatment. 20.0% returned baseline 4), 75.0% partially recovered 15) 5.0% worsened At up, 11 on modifying therapy 9 not. Nine subsequent vaccine. Of symptom recrudescence without radiologic evidence new attack. Conclusions our knowledge, this is largest date describing COVID-19. The rate eligible general population high during time cases we could determine whether number higher than expected. Repeat associated with recurrent adverse small observational series.

Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is an acute or subacute condition characterized by widespread multifocal neurological deficits of variable severity. We report a case of a 45-year-old man with ADEM following anti-rabies vaccine (ARV).
متن کاملRecovery From Central Nervous System Acute Demyelination in Children.
BACKGROUND Few prospective studies have systematically evaluated the extent of recovery from incident acquired demyelinating syndromes (ADS) of the central nervous system in children. METHODS In a national cohort study of pediatric ADS, severity of the incident attack and extent of recovery by 12 months were evaluated. Annual evaluations were used to determine current diagnoses (monophasic AD...
متن کاملMechanisms of immunological tolerance in central nervous system inflammatory demyelination.
Multiple sclerosis is a complex autoimmune disease of the central nervous system that results in a disruption of the balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory signals in the immune system. Given that central nervous system inflammation can be suppressed by various immunological tolerance mechanisms, immune tolerance has become a focus of research in the attempt to induce long-lasti...
متن کاملReported Changes in Dietary Behavior Following a First Clinical Diagnosis of Central Nervous System Demyelination
Background/objectives Although the current evidence is insufficient to recommend a special diet for people with multiple sclerosis (MS), dietary advice for people with MS is prolific online and in the media. This study aimed to describe dietary changes made in the year following a first clinical diagnosis of central nervous system demyelination (FCD), a common precursor to MS. Subjects/method...
متن کاملDeath receptor signalling in central nervous system inflammation and demyelination.
Death receptors (DRs) are members of the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNF-R) superfamily that are characterised by the presence of a conserved intracellular death domain and are able to trigger a signalling pathway leading to apoptosis. Strong evidence suggests that DRs contribute to the pathology of tissue destructive diseases, including multiple sclerosis (MS), the most common inflammatory...
